The New Lexicon offers music educators a framework in which to deepen the practical and intellectual dimensions of their work. Over several months, participants can move beyond the limits of a single workshop and develop questions through presentation, response, revision, experimentation, and public articulation.
The programme enables participants to:
– clarify concepts, values, and philosophical commitments implicit in educational decisions;
– advance curricula, pedagogical experiments, community initiatives, and research through substantive feedback;
– develop more precise vocabularies for presenting, contextualising, and evaluating their work;
– test educational and theoretical propositions within an international research community;
– encounter methods, musical practices, and philosophical perspectives beyond familiar fields;
– situate projects within wider historical, ethical, technological, institutional, and political debates;
– establish intellectual relationships and formulate trajectories for educational and research development.
This contextualisation does not displace the practical specificity of teaching and learning. It enables educators to understand more clearly how their choices participate in, resist, or transform surrounding conditions.
The residency may generate pedagogical methods, research questions, curricular models, presentation formats, institutional interventions, and collaborations. It may support future publications, workshops, courses, artistic projects, and research extending beyond the programme. The work may circulate across educational, artistic, academic, policy, community, and public contexts without requiring those contexts to become identical. The programme’s value lies not in delivering a universal model of good education, but in enabling participants to formulate stronger questions, make more responsible decisions, and communicate the significance of their practices with greater precision.
